Important Info Concerning iPads
Parking is very limited at Parkside Primary Center. Parents may park behind the school, directly behind the gymnasium, during and after school hours. Access to this lot can be gained via Williams Street. (The west side of this lot serves as a playground area for our students during the school day. We generally put cones each day out to indicate the beginning of the playground area. Please park to the east of these cones during the school day.) The parking spaces, to the far east of this back lot, have been designated as staff parking during the school day.
FRONT CIRCLE DRIVES & BACK PARKING LOT:
East Circle Drive: Parking is not allowed in the east circle drive. Cars are only allowed in the east circle drive between 7:45-8:10 AM for drop off of third grade students.
West Circle Drive: Cars are NOT allowed, for parking or drop off, in the west circle drive. The west circle drive is reserved strictly for buses. This not only includes arrival and dismissal times, but all other times throughout the school day as well.
Back Parking Lot: If you are needing to park, for any reason throughout the school day, please park in the middle section of our back parking lot.
DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES:
Drop Off of 3rd Graders: For AM parent/guardian drop off ONLY, parents/guardians of 3rd graders may drop off in the front of the building at the east circle drive, (the circle closest to Moreland.) Please pull as far forward as possible, leaving just about two feet between you and the car in front of you, so that we can unload 3-4 cars at a time, get you on your way quickly, and not back up traffic onto Central Street.
Drop Off of 2nd Graders & Their 3rd Grade Siblings: Parents/Guardians of 2nd graders, as well as parents/guardians who have BOTH 2nd and 3rd grader students to drop off, should drop off via our back lot. Again, please pull as far forward as possible, leaving just about two feet between you and the car in front of you, so that we can unload 3-4 cars at a time and get you on your way quickly.
Also…very important….Since we only have a two lane entry to our back parking lot, once the drop off lane is full, you MUST come on up to the parking spots and park, and either assist your child in walking across the traffic lane or direct them to wait with you until a monitor is available to walk them across. We simply cannot not have the back lane backed up with vehicles on the thoroughfare lane to our back parking lot. We must keep that open in order for our staff members to be able to park and get to their assigned locations, and more importantly, for emergency vehicles to be able to get to the back of our school in the case of an emergency. So please, once that drop off lane is full, go ahead and come on up and park.
Pick Up: At dismissal time, ALL 2nd and 3rd grade car riders are to be picked up at the back of the building. As we do in the AM during student drop off, we ask that you pull as far forward as possible, leaving just about two feet between you and the car in front of you, so that we can unload 3-4 cars at a time and get you on your way quickly. A staff member will assist your child in finding your vehicle when you have reached the “loading zone,” which is the area closest to the school. For safety reasons, as mentioned earlier, we cannot back up traffic onto our lane thoroughfare. So, once that drop off lane is full, you MUST come on up to the parking spots and park, and either assist your child in walking across the traffic lane, or direct them to wait with you until a monitor is available to walk them across. Children should NEVER be allowed to cross traffic to get to parents’ vehicles without adult supervision. This poses a severe safety threat to our students. Again, our hope is to load 3-4 cars at a time and get you on your way as quickly as possible. *Please note…Until our supervisors get accustomed to what students should be escorted to what vehicles, please have a sign displayed in one of the windows of the right side of your vehicle boldly displaying your child’s name and grade so that we can have your child ready to board your vehicle as soon as possible.
Students who walk or ride their bicycles to and from school should ONLY cross the street at the crosswalk directly in front of the school. (This is the only location where a crossing guard is stationed.) Bike-riders should dismount their bicycles and walk them across the street at the crosswalk. Students should wait at the side of the road until the crossing guard gives them the okay that it is safe to cross the street. Students should then proceed to their desired location via the sidewalk in the arboretum. They should NEVER walk through people’s yards or dart across the street or in and out of traffic. *If your child will be crossing Central Street, on any given morning, we ask that you please call the school office ahead of time, 618-377-4100, so that we can be sure to have someone available to assist him/her in crossing the street safely.
Parent Waiting Area:
Parents are required to wait for their children outside of the school doors. We have a large number of children coming into the commons area in a relatively short period of time. We can better ensure their safe arrival/departure, and make sure they meet with their parents/guardians, if only our students and staff are in the commons area.
Parents are asked to review these procedures with their children periodically so that students are mindful of safety precautions.
Student Safety – Our Ultimate Goal:
We understand that parents would like to drop off and pick up their children in a timely manner. These procedures have been established to assist in this process without compromising the safety of our students. We thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work together to see that your child arrives both to school and home safely each day.
