PARCC Testing April 5th-20th
Between the dates of April 5th through April 20th our third grade students will be involved in taking the state-mandated “Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers” (PARCC). The PARCC test is given to various grade level students across the state of Illinois each spring, in an effort to determine how well Illinois schools are doing in preparing their students in achieving the “Illinois and Common Core Standards for Learning,” designed by educators and professionals. The results obtained from this assessment will not only be used to evaluate individual student performance, but will also be utilized to assess school wide programs and initiatives. Students in the third grade will be taking tests in the areas of reading and math. Students will demonstrate their knowledge and problem solving abilities in these areas, as they pertain to the achievement of the standards set forth by the state of Illinois.
These state assessments are very useful not only in determining individual student strengths and weaknesses, but also in determining curriculum/program strengths and weaknesses. Thus, it is very important that each student be present and ready to give his or her best effort. Please do your part to make sure that your child arrives to school on time, having had a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast. When a child’s basic needs are met, he/she is more able to focus on the activity at hand, and to put fourth maximum effort.
Please also stress to your child the importance of doing his/her best. Again, based on how our students perform, we are better able to make program and curriculum evaluations and decisions to improve our school. Your assistance in this matter will help us to better serve the students and the community here at Parkside.
Our teachers have done their best in preparing our students in content areas, testing format, and test-taking skills. It is now up to the students to put forth their best effort! Good luck students. Remember strive to “Be the Best You Can Be!”
End of Third Quarter
Friday, March 9th marks the end of the third quarter. Report cards will be sent home on Friday, March 16th. Be sure to note specific strengths and weaknesses your child is exhibiting at this time and communicate with your child’s teacher about what you can do to help your child maximize his or her achievement.
Parkside PTO’s Spring Fundraiser
Parkside Peace Walk
Our PTO will sponsor our first ever “Parkside Peace Walk,” as a spring fundraiser, on Friday, March 23rd. Students will take home a donation pledge form and solicit donations from friends and family members as they “walk for peace” during their scheduled time. Business donations are being solicited. All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the many special activities and events our Parkside PTO provides for our students. If you, or any businesses you might be aware of, would like to support our school, please do so, and/or send their information our way. We thank you, in advance, for your support.
Spring Break
School will not be in session Wednesday, March 28th through Tuesday, April 2nd, due to Spring Break. We hope you are able to enjoy this time with your families.
March 9th-Early Dismissal Day
Our students will be dismissed at 11:25 AM on Friday, March 9th to allow our teachers to spend the afternoon working on school improvement issues. Your child will come home with a sheet upon which you should indicate how your child will be getting home that day, and also whether he/she will be taking a school sack lunch that day. Please be sure to send this sheet back to school with your child promptly so that we can see that all students make it to their destination safely and enjoy a lunch if they need to do so.
